Nursing Home Abuse
Chicago, IL

Has a Loved One Been the Victim of Nursing Home Neglect?

In Illinois, the Illinois Department of Public Health receives about 19,000 calls alleging neglect or abuse each year and investigates nearly 5,000 of these claims.  Although many of the incidents go unreported, elders who typically file lawsuits against their care facilities are usually victims of physical, emotional, sexual, or financial abuse.  This abuse or neglect can be intentional or unintentional.  If you or a loved one has been victimized by nursing do not hesitate: Call the Flanagan Injury Law Group now at 773-789-8LAW (8529). The consultation is free and we are available 24 hours a day/7 days per week.

Types of Neglect

The various types of neglect a nursing home resident may be subject to include; medical neglect, which includes the withholding of proper medical care or treatment.  In addition to causing a resident to suffer from illness, medical neglect can lead to bedsores, infections, or medication errors (bedsores are one of the most common and indicative signs of nursing home abuse); hygiene neglect which is the failure to help nursing home residents to keep themselves and their environment clean.  Regarding hygiene neglect, lack of personal cleanliness can lead to staph infections and other types of infections.  Lack of hygiene is evidenced by dirty clothing, dirty bathroom and bedcovers, and un-brushed teeth among other things; nutritional neglect, which is the withholding of food and drink or nutritional supplements, and can cause dehydration and malnutrition. Additionally, many nursing homes can be liable for wandering and elopement (inadequate supervision by caregivers resulting in the wandering and escaping of patients).  Wondering and elopement can be particularly troubling when the elderly individual has dementia or Alzheimer’s. Finally, unexpected death can also be a result of nursing home abuse and/or neglect. Whether bedsores, malnutrition, medication errors, or sexual abuse, if nursing has victimized you or a loved one do not hesitate: Call the Flanagan Injury Law Group now at 773-789-8LAW (8529). The consultation is free and we are available 24 hours a day/7 days per week.
